Adriene Levknecht grew up paddling in Greenville, South Carolina.

Queen of the Green

This month she won her 8th Green Race, placing first in the women’s and top 10 overall, holding her hard earned title, Queen of the Green. Over the years, as our relationship has grown with Adriene, we have learned a lot about her. Not only is she a fast fierce competitor in steep creek competitions, she is also a powerful freestyle paddler, we had to pick our jaws up off the bleacher floor last fall as we watched her combine power with finesse while competing in the Garburator Wave on the Ottawa.

A Dose of Disappointment

Adriene is no stranger to the top of the podium, but she’s also dealt with her fair share of disappointments. What we have found to be most impressive is her ability to take a perceived failure and turn it into a fuel to push herself to be a better, stronger, more powerful competitor in the next round. She truly is an athlete.

Giving Back

Though Adriene has dedicated her life to performance on the water, she also spends a lot of her time on the river giving back. In 2015 she began working with the non-profit foundation called First Descents, which teaches young adult cancer survivors how to ‘out live’ their diagnosis through a free week of outdoor experiences. “The passion that I receive from the participants’ keeps me charged every time I enter the water in a kayak,” says Adriene.

A Passion for People

Her drive and passion for helping others sent Adriene to Paramedic school and after a few bumps, some adventures, a handful of mishaps, she ended up accomplishing one of her life goals. She started working for Greenville County EMS in South Carolina as a Paramedic for the 911 service. Adriene now works a busy schedule while at home in Greenville, SC during her “off season” for traveling, most of the time working more than 48 hours a week.

Wild Ride

Next fall Adriene is starting a new adventure with a “trip of a lifetime,” when she marries her best friend. In 2010 Adriene took quite the liking to a red headed British kid that showed up in an Audi at the Green River clean up. Many of their friends worked tirelessly to get Adriene and Snowy together. It took a bit of talking into but Snowy gave into Adrienes’ advances, even after learning he was ten years her senior. Seven years later, they have found their “home” with each other, no matter where they are in the World. Adriene is a powerful package of energy, with a larger than life personality, we are stoked to have her on team Kokatat. Keep charging Lil’A – We’ll be watching and hanging on the best we can!
