I purchased my first Kokatat dry suit 12+ years ago, a GORE-TEX® Meridian and it was the biggest investment in my paddling gear quiver other than my boat. Admittedly I was reluctant to spend the money but was sold on the idea when I learned more about why you make the investment. It was true. I was more comfortable and safer because I was warm and dry. I paddled more, even in the winter because I was not freezing and I finally learned how to roll!
The real stumbling block for me was finding the right size and fit. I am active and healthy but I also have a curvy figure (hips and all). This didn’t bode well for outfitting myself in technical paddling apparel until I found Kokatat. Having the ability to order a custom fit dry suit was huge and sealed my commitment and love for Kokatat gear forever.
Today, I am the Western Canadian Sales Representative for Kokatat and one of my jobs is to educate retailers and consumers about Kokatat and our gear. One thing I love to educate on is the importance of investing in a dry suit. The comfort, safety, extended paddling season and expanding ones skill set, provide a fantastic return on investment, and the fact that Kokatat is committed to ensuring that the dry suit is going to fit you in all the right places makes it worth every penny.
It’s not hard for me to share my enthusiasm for Kokatat and doing this with consumers is a particular favorite for me. I had an opportunity to introduce a female paddler to Kokatat dry suits at one of the consumer events I attend. Sarah came into the Kokatat booth and was looking at my selection of demo dry suits and sighed. I asked her if I could answer any questions and her response was, “no, they don’t make dry suits for my fat a$$”. I stifled a giggle and said, as a matter of fact they do and I proceeded to tell her about our amazing, dry suit customization program and the fact that we make dry suits that are specifically for women in stock sizes of small, medium, large and x-large short (XLS). When I told her I had one with me that would most likely fit her she was pretty skeptical, but I assured her if needed we could make any size modifications. The ability to length or shorten sleeves and legs and torso gives us a lot to work with. Sarah didn’t have any trouble pulling the XLS Icon dry suit over her hips and butt, and her reaction was awesome. A huge grin accompanied by an enthusiastic, “it fits, I can’t believe it fits!” We discussed other details regarding the dry suits and as we were finishing up she expressed how happy she was that she stopped by the booth and that she couldn’t wait to place her order.
Our dry suit customization program makes it easy to get the fit and options you want in a dry suit. Besides customizing the fit, there are lots of custom options available to get the suit exactly how you want it. Everything from a lowered front relief zipper for women that use a feminine urinary device (FUD), full Cordura® GORE-TEX® bottoms for extra durability, custom colors, and pockets, hood, suspenders and reflective tape.

Thanks Kokatat for making dry suits that fit everyone, even us curvy girls, so we can get out on the water, safely and comfortably.
