At 12, he was introduced to kayaking through his local scout troop, an experience he credits with changing the course of his life.\\n\\nFor Vance, learning to kayak was a challenging journey full of struggle and fear, but through persistence evolved into a passion. By age 15, Vance was surfing the local play waves and developing the foundational skills that would shape his approach to river running.\\n\\nVance would take this inspiration to the High Sierra a few years later. That first season in the Sierra Nevada would lead to a lifelong love for the mountains of California. Every season would push Vance to gain a deeper understanding of these rivers, while running them with more efficiency and confidence.\\n\\nIn 2019, Vance took his first international kayaking trip to Veracruz, Mexico, solidifying his commitment to traveling and paddling as much as possible.
